How Do Brands Verify Festive POSM Actually Went Up in Every Store?

By Sakshi Bhatnagar
Every festive season, Indian retail runs the same race. Brands push standees, danglers, shelf strips and counter displays into thousands of stores within a few weeks, all timed to land before Navratri, Dhanteras and Diwali footfall peaks.
On paper, it almost always goes to plan. Vendor reports say installed. Photos pile up in WhatsApp groups and inboxes. The tracker turns green.
Walk into a few of those stores, though, and the picture often looks different. That gap between what’s reported and what shoppers see is where a large share of festive spend quietly disappears.

Why does festive POSM go missing in stores?

Usually not because anyone is cutting corners. It’s because of how stores work during festive weeks.
  • Space disappears. Stores stock up heavily before Diwali. Floor standees get pushed behind cartons or into corners to make room.
  • Every brand wants the same spot. Multi-brand outlets get POSM from a dozen brands at once. The counter can only hold so much, and store staff decide what stays visible.
  • Installers are stretched. Vendor teams cover many cities in the same fortnight. A quick photo and a ticked box become “done”.
  • Photos can’t be traced. A WhatsApp image doesn’t say which store it’s from or when it was taken. It could even be from last season.
  • Checks come too late. By the time a regional manager visits, the festive window the POSM was meant for has closed.

So what counts as real proof?

A store should count as done only when its installation photo answers four questions:
  1. Where was it taken? At the store’s registered location, not a warehouse or another outlet.
  2. When? Inside the agreed installation window.
  3. Is everything there? Every planned element, matched against that store’s layout.
  4. Will shoppers see it? Right shelf, right height, not blocked by stock.
If any answer is no, the store isn’t done. It needs fixing.

Why is this so hard at festive scale?

The four checks are simple. Running them across hundreds or thousands of stores, every day, during the busiest weeks of the year is not. A spreadsheet and a WhatsApp group can’t keep up.
Finding a gap is also only half the job. Each failed store needs a fast fix loop:
  1. Flag the store the moment a check fails.
  2. Assign it to the nearest field team or vendor, with a deadline.
  3. Close it only when a fresh, verified photo comes back.

How Multiplier helps brands close the gap

This is exactly the problem Multiplier’s retail execution tools and field teams are built for.
  • RetailTrack logs every store visit with geo-tagged photo proof and checks it against the planogram and promotion plan, so the four checks run store by store.
  • RVT, our Retail Visibility Tool brings it onto one real-time view for brands, vendors and field teams: what’s live, what’s failed and what hasn’t reported, city by city.
  • Field teams across 600+ cities close the gaps. In one rollout, we delivered POSM changeovers across 50 stores in 2 days.
Festive POSM is one of the biggest in-store investments a brand makes all year. It deserves proof, not just a green tracker.
